Foreword by Aude Zieseniss de Thuin
Our
theme for the third edition of the Women’s
Forum for the Economy and Society, «Building
Trust in our Societies», is a crucial subject.
In our era, economic, social and environmental issues
are such that experts, philosophers, financiers, researchers
and sociologists have trouble defining conditions that
could create a better, more secure, and trustworthy
world. At the same time, the world’s citizens
are observing global changes live on the Internet and
can exchange information, share their doubts and their
questions.
It is therefore more vital than ever to bring practical and realistic answers to these questions, no matter where
they come from. And it has become essential to stray
from pat answers to favour tangible results and find
alternative responses either in terms of new ethical
standards or new social networks, while reinforcing human
rights for a new kind of justice and rethinking cultural
identity for a global world. Few issues can avoid reform,
and few escape scrutiny. In light of this, we must redefine
each and every assigned role for nations, companies,
associations and individuals.
In this massive redistribution of roles, women are taking
centre stage and assuming their responsibilities—alongside
men, of course. Women's support is essential. Not only
because they are a key element of social cohesion, but
also because they are inventive and innovative, and the
results of their actions show the pertinence of their
approach. There will be intense moments in Deauville
this year!
By
choosing to address the theme of trust, we aim to show
that the greatest wealth that men and women can offer
is the capacity to exchange experiences, create a connection,
build relationships, the respect of others and the
respect for commitment. Trust is a virtue, but one
that must be deserved. In order to restore trust in
our societies, it is essential to make a pact of clarity
and truth. This is the choice of women I meet throughout
the world and in all domains—and
this is no coincidence. In Deauville, we will listen
to women who are clearing the path, those that live the
spirit of entrepreneurship every day, that defend the
rising power of civil society or are actors in international
organisations.
By
gathering the most varied panel of women with professional,
political, associative and human experience, the Women’s
Forum will show than in just three years it has become
an indispensable venue for meetings and debates which
our changing society direly needs. It is a meeting place
for people active in domains as varied as business, culture,
politics and assocations—a unique gathering for
differing voices and visions.
Ever
more international and unexpected in its open-mindedness,
more original in its approach to the issues, this new
edition of the Women’s Forum
will be an exceptional vintage. For three days the Forum
will gather together women and men, opinion leaders,
intellectuals and exceptional individuals who are the
real vectors of change in today's world. Interested
in the experiences of others and concerned about the
future of our population, they come from around the
world to share the same ambition: to restore trust
in our societies.

Orange:
bringing people together
Orange
believes that life is better without walls between
places, people, information and entertainment.
In that respect, social community
networks enable each one of us to establish closer links with other
people, and also discover new ways of expression.
Building
on its strength as a leading provider of mobile, Internet, TV, video and fixed line services in markets across the world,
Orange’s aim is to further develop networking services such
as Pikeo (to share photos) and Bubbletop (to organise and share web
page). Orange wants to support people, and especially
women, to transcend the frontiers of time and space and help
them create their own social community. Through innovative new
communications tools, Orange offers new ways for women to share interests
and express themselves, especially in places where they have
less visibility. The key difference with Orange is that these
services are accessible to communities whenever and wherever
they are needed.
Orange
contributes to building communities. Because it is its mission to
bring people together to enable them to go further.
Women Action for Leading Change
In partnership with Reporters d’Espoir
and Caisse d’Epargne
Produced
with Reporters d’Espoirs and the Women’s Forum, and
thanks to the support of Caisse d’Epargne, this project will allow outstanding
women to talk about what they have done to change the world around them and
to motivate each and all to become involved and create links to instigate
change in their regions and throughout the world.

Sci
Tech Girls
In partnership with L’Oréal, Orange, Centrale School of Engineering (France and Beijing), Ecole Normale Supérieure, and with the support of Cisco, Suez, Thales, Total and the City of Deauville
A
special message from L’Oréal
The
world need science… Science
needs women
This
conviction has united L’Oréal and UNESCO since
1998, when they joined forces to promote women
in scientific research by creating the For Women
in Science partnership.
Please help us to identify the perception of women scientists in order to change mentalities by filling in the online questionnaire before October 5th:

Thank
you very much in advance!

Titouan Lamazou, Women of the World
In partnership with the
Fondation L’Oréal

After
six years of globetrotting, encounters and
a long creative process, Titouan Lamazou (Unesco’s Artist for Peace) has revealed «Femmes
du Monde» (Women of the World). His deeply original vision
shows more than 200 portraits of women in a large-scale exhibition
at the Musée de l'Homme (Natural History Museum) in Paris,
from October 11, 2007 to March 30, 2008.
A selection of his portraits will be displayed
at the Women's Forum.
Titouan will give a conference in the Writers Corner
introducing the book “Femmes du Monde” published by
Gallimard and the serial of films broadcasted by France 5.

New
in the Discovery Programme
This
year’s Discovery Programme – the
Forum’s «side» programme—will grow in stature
with a «Discovery Hall» combining networking and discovery
areas. The Discovery programme is centred this
year on the main themes related to trust: education,
design, the environment, travel, writing, health
and well-being. The area will feature innovative and down-to-earth
workshops moderated by artists, writers, scientists and renowned
experts.
Design
Corner, in partnership with Euro RSCG, Lenovo and Nelly
Rodi
Conceived
by trend office Nelly Rodi, this corner offers a sensorial and
entertaining journey on the theme, «In Design We Trust».
Creations by Lenovo, such as the Olympic flame, will be highlighted.
Two series of sessions will be organised: Euro RSCG's programme «Creating
Business Ideas» and the presentation of upcoming trends by
Nelly Rodi and Lenovo.
Environment
Corner, in partnership with Suez
We
cannot predict the future, but we can invent it.
These
words are written above the entrance to the “World of
the Future.” Far from being bravely optimistic, they represent
a commitment, and a responsibility. The history
of SUEZ and its companies is marked by this conviction
of shared progress.
In the current project SUEZ constantly come across themes that are
dear to the Group: innovation, creativity, vision and sustainable
development.
These are all exciting challenges. But first and foremost they are
very real solutions that affect our everyday lives, in our homes
and in our day-to-day experience. This is what SUEZ find so fascinating
about the wonderful Living Tomorrow project: showing how we can save
energy, conserve resources and make sustainable development an everyday
reality.
Think & Share
Hosted by McKinsey & Company hosted this June edition...
«Women in
business as vector of change»
The
Think & Share breakfast debate organised by the Women’s
Forum on June 5, brought together Nicole Notat,
CEO of extra-financial analysis agency Vigeo
Group, and Laurence Parisot, president of Medef.
The discussion was moderated by journalist and author Christine
Ockrent.
McKinsey & Company hosted this June edition of Think & Share, and this
year the company joined the Women’s Forum as Worldwide Partner. Eric Labaye,
director of McKinsey & Company France, explains this partner's commitment
through the fact that «100% of talent should contribute to the creation
of wealth, and half of this talent comes from women.»
McKinsey & Company
is also conducting a study on women and corporate performance, whose results
will be revealed in October at the Women’s Forum.
Aude Zieseniss de Thuin
announced that Ian Davis, Global CEO of McKinsey & Company, has joined the
Women's Forum's Global Council.
The discussion centred on three axes:
- How do Nicole Notat and Laurence Parisot see the nature of social
dialogue?
- How much impact does diversity have in a company when it comes
to negotiating and doing business?
- Does having women in key management positions reinforce trust?
