Afghanistan Libre was created in 1996 by a group of Afghan and French people. It aims to support Afghan women for their emancipation, the acquisition of their rights in society, and for the promotion of girls’ education.

The programme awarded today will be implemented during 2 years and allow the following activities:

  • Creation of new fields of vocational training (journalism, IT, management and accountancy) in the Khoja Lakan and Azrat Osman Schools, and support to the most talented girls in the competition for university admission;
  • Improvement of the educational environment thanks to the construction of 11 classrooms at Khoja Lakan and refurbishment of a library for both schools;
  • Awareness programme focusing on the importance of educating girls, the prevention of forced marriages and the professional opportunities opened to female graduated;
  • On going training of teachers and creation of nurseries for their children.

Last May, the ‘Women’s Forum for the Economy and Society’, ELLE Magazine and the Fondation d’entreprise ELLE together with the NGO Aide et Action joined forces and together create the ‘Women for Education Initiative’ for the promotion of education and training of women across the five continents. Around fifty projects were examined by the ELLE Foundation and Aide et Action and 3 of them have been selected by a prestigious jury to be submitted the Women’s Forum’s participants in Deauville.
