The Women’s Forum has selected Spain first because it supports and applauds its recent ground-breaking strides toward full equality for men and women, as manifested by last year’s Law of Equality ("la ley de la Igualdad") and the freshly established Ministry of Equality. Such dramatic steps to implement full gender parity both at the highest political level and in business decision-making spheres make Spain an example to follow in Europe and on the international scene. This pioneering approach also explains why Spain is the ideal place to start the forward-looking Women’s Forum Days, where global issues about the future and the role that women can play as essential stakeholders and visionaries are discussed.
The Women’s Forum Day in Madrid will explore key issues such as the economic and social power of women in the 21st Century, the root causes of the current global financial crisis, or the importance of migration and immigration in Spain and European societies today, among other topics. The idea is for the female attendees of this one-day event to together analyze global issues of paramount importance for society and their solutions for the future. The sessions’ results will be presented at the Women’s Forum’s Annual Meeting in Deauville in October. Participants will also have a chance to reconvene in 2009 and 2010 in Madrid to further work on these universal topics of shared interest. To show its commitment, the Women’s Forum has decided to make the Women’s Forum Day in Spain an annual event that will foster continuity, participant engagement and concrete, results-driven outcomes.
Experience, knowledge and transmission matter here: the next generation of high potential, high achieving women will be an integral part of the audience.
Attendance to the Women’s Forum Day will be by invitation only, and each participant will be kindly asked to bring along a young female leader of tomorrow of their choice.
The Women’s Forum Day Madrid will be held at the Casino in Madrid.
